ABOUT US

MISSION

We take old stuff and turn it into something useful.

We believe convertibility keeps materials functional and out of landfills.

Quality matters.

OUR STORY

Cooking and baking are big parts of our family life. When I tried to find sustainable children's aprons that my daughters and I would both love, I was disappointed by the options. I wanted something environmentally friendly, without ties that always seem to come undone, and that looked fashionable without sacrificing function. I finally decided to create my own, and Park + Coop was born.

As product design began, I thought about how much fabric waste was headed to landfills and that gave birth to ideas around how I could make that part of the plan. I wanted to make sure that our aprons were beautiful, modern, and functional for today's family so I asked my sister, Amyliz, to lend her cool Brooklyn vibe to our designs. Brooklyn-Designer meets Minnesota-maker! As we started brainstorming, we thought of all sorts of products we could make and creative ways to use the leftover scrap. That's when Park + Coop really dialed into its mission to reduce fabric waste through the manufacture of premium, well-designed products. We hope you'll climb aboard, let the wind blow through your hair, and join us for the ride.

THE PROCESS

We source previously worn clothes and materials that couldn’t find a home on the post-consumer market. This waste is often downcycled into items like rags. Or else they’re shipped overseas. 40% of that heads to a landfill. We rescue these fabrics and bring them to our shop in Minnesota, USA. We clean and sanitize the materials. Then we cut and sew the materials into something beautiful and useful. We do our best to salvage every scrap and to find responsible outlets for anything we can’t use. Typically, we’re able to use over 70% of the materials. Sometimes our needs are particular and we need a piece of new fabric. When that happens, we source deadstock fabric that was already manufactured for another purpose. We shop locally whenever possible to reduce shipments, and we try to be mindful of our business practices. We continue to learn and collaborate with like-minded partners. We’re not claiming to be perfect, but we do ok.

SUSTAINABILITY

In addition to our core business being based on 100% upcycled products we also:

  • Ship 100% of shipments using recyclable materials, keep shipping materials to minimum required
  • Recycle at all our workspaces

  • We use no animal products for anything
  • Source 100% textiles where production is done to reduce carbon footprint
  • Design and manufacture in-house and pay employees a living wage
  • Produce long-lasting, quality pieces to extend the life of the textiles as much as possible
